we found a place!

So, Jacko and I looked at one place, which was just a block from Long Island Sound, and some nice beaches, but... from what the vacating tenents said, the landlords were "ok"...that leaves something unsaid..and yet much said. My friend Julius calls us and says..hey, I have a friend who has a second floor apt for rent in New Haven want to check it out.. indeedy!! We met Kirk, and it turns out we know a slew of the same peeps in Boston! He liked us and we liked him AND the apartment, and we're moving in Sept 1st!! That was one huge issue we don't have to deal with anymore! So, we're now going to rent a truck and get moving next week... drive down to New Haven on 8/31 so we can move in on the 1st.... this apt is really nice, very sunny..and best of all its like ten minutes from downtown New Haven... Andrew, Drew, you have to visit now!!

My Kittens have passed...

Today, my beloved mama cat, Seraghina, whom I adopted when she was a kitten, passed away today along with her daughter kitty Miss Ashley Anne whom we called GothGirl. Both were struggling with health problems and the move to Connecticut would have been too much for them. They are over that rainbow bridge, and they are joyously reunited with Mary Margaret, Blanca. They will be missed very much... the mama always knew when to comfort me, and she was dutiful as a mama to Ashley and her other three kitties up to her last day... you will both be in my heart until the day I meet you at the end of that bridge and we're all together.....

A Day with the Dead

Today, for lack of anything else to do, I spent with the dead citizens of New Haven. Here you can see Mr Eli Whitney's final resting place. Mr Whitney, is most well known for his invention of the cotton gin, which was a curse or a blessing for the agricultural south. It got those seeds outta the cotton so more could be picked and therefore more cheap help.. ( a euphamism and tongue in cheek meaning for slavery. The Grove St cemetery is quite interesting. I sat there for awhile, being the only living amongst the dead.. wondering what if these people were living in a parallel universe and their grave sites were actually their homes, all grand and glorious like the Victorians on Whitney St and the even older federal style homes of the 1700s. Yale presidents mixed with common folk, Roger Sherman, a native to Boston but a signer of the Declaration of Independance from CT... hob nobbing with Charles Goodyear of Tire Fame... and what the heck is Anne Gerry doing in New Haven? Her husband, Eldridge Gerry, a once Vice Prez of the USA and the originator of Gerrymandering all within the confines of these brick walls. Well it was peaceful, and it gave me something to do... I miss home, I miss Jacko and Connaugh, Squeaks, Cobalt and Brennie... I want us to all be here together and the next three weeks will suck... I wanted to go back to Maine but Jack said absolultely not!! He wants outta there so bad...so I will be miserable, poor, and eat cheetos for the next five days so as to get us here together. Sorry I digressed, but homesickness overwhelms me sometimes, I just want life to be normal again. Well, won't blog again for a day or two, my 12 hour day is tomorrow.. lucky me.

Saturday Morning

Sitting here on what should be an idyllic Saturday morning, drinking my coffee in the Book Trader Cafe patio, and across the street is this giant blue draped monstrosity owned by Yale U and I swear if there was one more Jack Hammer in the State of Connecticut ( or the Tri State for that matter...thats New York, New Jersey and Connecticut for you out of loop folk) they would have it here blasting away at old cement flooring. Urgh... At least the eye candy is nice, the heat of the day has not begun to nake the sidewalks sizzle, and because of the noise, Ihave the patio all to myself, save for a few maurauding sparrows hoping I have some bread to toss them this morning. Patheticially I have no plans for the day... I had contemplated sleeping all day, but that would be worse than pathetic eh? My Photo of the day, is that of "RED ROCK" a slice of New Haven, which is pretty neat when you think how flat and at sea level we're at...

New Haven New Life

Wow, how time flies. Here I am sitting in the heart of New Haven, with the Yale Repertory theater and Yale Drama School all in my eyes sight! I've traded the peace and maddening tranquility of rural Maine, for the hustle of a city, which is just 68 miles from NYC!... Its been so long since I have lived in a city that I am often jolted when I walk past a dumpster with the most dubious odors, or street people who talk to themselves or give you stares as though they want to carve your heart out. Since I don't have internet in the lovely ( tongue in cheek) Chez Duncan Hotel, I am at the coffee shop across the street, using someone's wi fi ...

Meanwhile, the cacophony of construction/destruction workers fill the air with jack hammers, and trucks, and god knows whatother noise they make... but it fills my head. Later tonight, after 4 it will be almost silent when these little macho worker bees go home to their families.

Jacko is still in Maine, feeling very very isolated. We rented our property out as of Sept 1st, and I will go back to Maine to help him pack up a U Haul truck with our belongings and bring us down to Connecticut. He has the unpleasant task of having our Mama kitty put to sleep along with her daughter kitty ( Seraghina and Ashley). They're getting on in years and just would not cope well with city life. I feel badly, but then they're old and becoming a bit daft in the head... the thoughts of this make me sad... but on the other hand, I;ll get to see my two best buddies.. Connaugh ( my dog and my shadow) and Mr Squeaks, my devoted black cat who thinks every hour should be nap time... haha.

Work... hmmm... ambivalent about this job I would say. I have decided to stay out of peoples lives the best I can, remain polite, conversant, but not share too much about me. There are too many personalities at this job and some of the nurses I think can be vitriolic... I have to remember, that this job is just to get me through grad school. The nursing ed dept keeps talking about me getting my RN ( I have to be there at least until 2/08 to qualify for them to pay...meanwhile, I have grad school beginning in January... not sure they'll be so flexible with my schedule to let me attend classes, so things are tenuous at best...

Another interesting aspect to living here is keeping to a budget. I have 65.00 dollars to technically last me until next Friday. This has to include my meals, and laundry and stuff....I have become pretty good at finding cheap eats, ( I have lost weight in two weeks!) and how to find entertainment thats cheapo...Saturday night, on the New Haven green is a free concert with jazz singer Regina Bell. I think Sunday, I might try to find a way to get to the beach... all free... I'm avoiding bars because I don't want to piss my allowance down the loo... Next Friday is Payday, and this coming Monday, our tenant in Maine will pay us for his first and last months rent.. I can't wait to get normalcy into our lives.

Meanwhile, the heat is building and time for me to go explore... .ciao!

On the Move

Google Space view of my house, actually its not where Google pinpointed but across the road, and you can see a white van in a driveway and forest behind my house. This is what hell looks like, so live a good life and you won't have to go here for eternal punishment. So today, I let my cat Cobalt outdoors to enjoy the sun, and what does that little shitter do? He chases a cute little chipmunk under the boyshed and is going to make him Sunday brunch! Jack and I are running around the back yard chasing Cobalt. He runs on the deck where I catch him and make him drop the poor little creature. I throw Cobalt into the house and the poor little chipper is laying almost dead on the wood plank of the deck, I'm ready to do mouth to mouth on the poor little guy when he stirs, looks up and flies off the deck..YAY!!! Chipmunk 1 Cobalt 0
So, anyway, things like this freak me out.... Jack and I are going to have to make some decisions about our pets. We have three old kitties who we think may not be good candidates for our move to Connecticut. We won't be property owners there, and landlords might not be too happy with five cats and a dog.. so much uncertainty about these things. On Thursday, we're heading to New Haven so I can interview with the new nurse manager. Fingers crossed I get the transfer. Then depending on how that goes, depends on when I start work in CT. Then we have to get this place sold. Yesterday we had a yard sale and made enough for gas money to and from CT... fuck gas is expensive now! We'll check out rentals, the gay scene and stuff like that... its all good. I won't start grad school until January. That will give me time to settle into a new routine, blow off some pent up energy to do the city scene, including NYC...where I plan to see Blossom Dearie again! Wanna come Andrew? hahah... I wish.. I know you love her. Not much else to talk about right now. Just glad to be off the official roster at Togus, looking forward to moving, and new adventures...

Almost time to Leave Maine...

Oh my.. look at our little Harry Potter now!
Now that I have your attention, just thinking out loud about things that are coming up, leaving my job in two weeks. Our house is for sale, any buyers? We're looking forward to heading down to Connecticut to check things out. Meanwhile, Maine is not so bad in the summer, especially when we know we're not spending another winter here. So much to do, so much to look forward toward... and here's wishing my dearest Andrew good luck during his exams!! Way to go bubsula!!

falwell farewell.. and good riddance

Well well... Jerry Falwell, one of the worst bigots and hatemongers is on his way to meet his maker. Since I don't understand the concept of God.. I can only imagine that if there is such a dude to meet when you die.. he would take one look at that fat piece of shit, jerry falwell, and throw his fat ass down into the fires of eternal damnation... if there is a hell, I hope he suffers for eternity.. I don't usually beat up on people who have died, but I have nothing but disdain for this good christian.. bah! No more wasting my energy or putting out any more negative energy.. let the cosmos deal with falwell...

And So it Goes..

Well today was my last day off before I head to Salem MA and get my bachelor of science degree!! Seven days and counting.. god its been a long row to hoe as they say... Today I went to Circuit City and got a new Kodak digital camera.. geez these things are complicated, and even more so, my new cell phone which is top of the line and new to the market... can't figure out how to make the sucker ring...taking it back to have them set it for me... sheesh. Anyway, next week I;ll have pics to show in my cap and gown! Did I tell you I hate my job at the VA? In my 32 plus years as a nurse I have never had so many criticisms about me logged in just the three months as I have in those other 32 years... nasty bitches, born again Kristians... they all suck... I hate nursing... and I;ll be giving my notice in the next four weeks, then sell this place and we'll be heading to Connecticut for grad school.... more later! Congratulations Andrew for finishing your semester!

How I feel today

Today I am feeling sooooooo negative. I hate it here in Maine. Its like my life is a waste every day that I spend here and I sometimes fear I'll be stuck in this shithole of a state forever. For a state with such a high tax rate ( second highest in the country) where the hell does the tax revenues go? Bah.. why do I even think about it.. I need to think ahead, the move to new places. I think my negativity comes from working at the VA.. god I hate it there, I work like a slave, get little recognition for my efforts and get paid crap...big time crap... Can't wait to say adios to that place.. for now, I have to put the bread on the table.. so I bite my tongue and endure... peace.

Countdown!

Countdown to Commencement ..... 16 days!

Countdown!

Today the countdown to Commencement at Salem State College is 17 days!!

May Day...

Today was a day off from work. I just finished a seven and a half day stretch without time to breathe. What keeps me going is the idea that I only have to work there until next winter begins and we're off to where ever... Connecticut or Florida, whichever happens.. we just know this, we refuse to spend another winter here in Maine.
So.. I feel like this kitty in the picture, pretty happy that the sun is shining and things are finally growing. The forest behind the house, had been so bare you could see through it for quite a distance, today I noticed its filling in with new vegetation, and the tree line has a blush to it, that is familiar to me here in New England. So today, I went outside, raked more old leaves, sprayed the base of the house for ants ( damn them!) and reconnected the garden hose. ( Oh god I hate climbing under this mobile home..god knows what lives underneath...) Anyway... also started to clean out the garage, we're going to yard sale alot of our stuff we don't plan to take with us. We also figured out that if our property doesn't sell, we can always keep it and use it for a summer retreat. So Jack and I discussed how we would winterize it, and what we would leave behind for furniture. Having that discussion was cathartic as it made us feel that we were making a progress toward moving back to a cultured society. So, its late afternoon, the sun is moving down toward the tree line behind the house, a hawk is circling the sky.. he better leave my Tiny Tim squirrel alone! Some birds are at the feeder, and all in all I feel pretty good about life today.., there is something to look at in the horizon! Happy May friends!!

You Go Dennis! Support House Resolution 333

Congressman Dennis Kuchinich of Ohio, has introduced House Resolution 333 to impeach Vice President and co-conspirator Dickie Cheney!! Tell your Congressman/woman to support this House Resolution 333... oh, and his reason to impeach Cheney before Bush? He said if we impeached Bush first Cheney becomes president and we have to impeach him anyway... brilliant plan!

Tiny Strength

Today, as the sun was beginning to set behind the tree line of the forest behind my house, I sat at my computer, looking out the window and watching the daily trundeling of the turkeys as they went to roost back in the woods somewhere. A woodpecker came out of the tree and pecked at some suet I keep in a suet feeder, and a few other birds got a last minute nibble of seed from the feeder. My eye caught something moving in an odd fashion, it looked like a cogwheel without a cog, a leaf running with the evening breeze? Wait, as this whirling dirvish moved toward my bird feeder, my eyes behold a tiny little squirrel. This little guy was dragging his little back end with gusto, his tail was no longer bushy but a sad little train that he pulled behind him. I was intrigued. He ate what little seed had fallen from the bird feeder. Three sparrows fly down and keep this little braveheart company. The sun is setting further down and I begin to worry about Owls, Hawks, Fishers, and other predators that can out distance this little guy. I go outside with a dish of seed, hoping he'll run off in his hobbled scurry. He runs under the shed, and out to the woods where I can see he has fashioned a home in a felled tree. I put the seed at the edge of the shed so he can safely nibble if he gets hungry.. my thought was about his safety, what a brave little creature, we could all learn a lesson from this grey little squirrel. Don't know why I wrote this, but watching this little creature survive like this, was profound... there are so many profound things all around us, yes?

Springtime leads to thoughts of getting the Hell outta Maine!

This weekend has been one of those glorious first weekends of spring where the temperatures were in the 70s... We did lots of outdoor yard things, raking mostly.. moving huge tree limbs that fell on the property from storms and wind which were the norm this past winter. My lungs are still giving me grief.. Jacko thinks its because I've been a couch potato all winter, I;m inclined to agree with him. I would rake ten minutes and take a twenty minute break.. anyway, while I was doing this yard work with my boyo..and best buddy Connaugh tied to his lead, I had lots of time to think about life in Maine, no matter how much I look at things, I cannot fathom spending another winter here in Maine. My undergrad faculty advisor is going to CCSU in New Britain CT. He wants me to apply there... pros..he's there, and I would probably get admitted for a Masters easy enough... its near NYC and Hartford and all things cultural... the only con is winter weather. So I go to CCSU, get my masters then we head to Florida. If we go directly to Florida, the pros are the weather, I have family, and its got lots of stuff to do. The cons are its over a thousand miles to move directly from Maine... I have to reapply to USF and take the damn GRE exams OH..we have to sell our house too we'll figure it out, its all a bit overwhelming right now. Meanwhile, tomorrow I go to Salem MA and attend a Senior and Faculty Brunch, I get my cap and gown...wooohoooo and finally have a docs appt with my pcp.. I haven;t seen my doc since last October for my physical exam.. time for a check up. April is almost behind us, this is Earth week.. love the earth ( we would love to give up our car and use public transportation)..someday soon...Miss you Mr Hugo!

A call for gun control!

I am a member of Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Honor Society for Criminal Justice majors and Juris Doctorates. I truly believe our country needs gun control laws, damn the National Rifle Association and damn the politicians who bend over for these lobbyists. We have 32 people dead. Young people, mature people, students, professors, bullets in the hands of a madman don't discriminate. White, black, gay, straight, man, woman... bullets only want to find a victim. I call upon the people who write our laws to understand that our forefathers did not mean we had the right to carry arms as they did back in the eighteenth century. Lets get real, lets fix this..lets stop the killing. Please.

Thoughts on this and that

Well lets see, there are 43 more days until Commencement Day at Salem State College. I'm pysched about this day, as its taken me forever to get my Bachelor of Science degree, now what do I do with a degree in Criminal Justice at my middle age years? Guess its on to grad school and a move to Florida.
This week we got another 16 inches of snow! Andrew, if you're trying to convert to Metric, its like past your knees deep... and they're predicting an even bigger storm perhaps for next week.. lets hope it moves out to the Atlantic, I mean lets face it, the trees are supposed to begin budding soon...
One more day of work, today I work second shift. I go in at 3:30 and its maihem until after dinner, then it slows down to a crawl. I just got the New Moshin Hamid book, "The Reluctant Fundamentalist", perhaps I'll bring it along and give it a start, although I wonder if my co-workers will give me a "look" for not being productive...
Sunday is Easter...big whoop, might give someone at work the option of working for them if they want to trade a day with me... Easter is hardly a big deal for an agnostic.
The 14 plus wild turkeys ( I have to get a shot of them for the blog) have taken up residence in the forest behind the house. They sit like sentinels throughtout my line of vision and at night fly up into the trees to roost. Several times a day they come into the yard to peck at the corn I scatter for them and the other little critters.
Last night a great horned owl sat in a tree branch outside my window, amazing to watch him ( or her) survey for anything that moved, believe me the yard and immediate perimeter of forest went silent while the owl looked for its next meal. It was pretty awesome however to see this as owls are nocturnal and seldom do you see them.
The picture in this blog looks like Mr Cobalt Pecora. He's my adopted alpha male kitty, who's responsibility is to keep this mobile home free of field mice and other critters. He does a remarkable job and he gets kudos from me! He also keeps the other kitties in line with a no nonsense drill sargent approach. The only one who rebels is his younger brother Squeaky Pecora who is a wild spirit and likes to hang out with Connagh my wonderdog. Cobalt's other duties include pestering for breakfast and dinner, batting at you when he believes he needs attention but not too much.. he likes to sit on top of the kitchen cabinets and play vulture... as well as stare out the sliding glass door at squirrels and turkeys to keep us free from wildlife terrorists. Cobalt has informed me he is a democrat, and cannot understand why anyone voted for Bush... he thinks humans are stupid in this regard. Actually he said that if he had an opposable thumb, he would have no need of us at all, although he is partial to me and Jacko.
Last thought of the day, I wish I had more gay friends here in rural Maine.
Happy weekend to all my friends and friends to be!

ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME

Ok, its time for America to get off its fat ass and clean house. We have a country founded on idealistic principals which our ancestors and even our own fathers and grandfathers fought for the sake of freedom and liberty in the face of Nazism and Fascism. What do we have to show for it today? A fascist regime in the White House. A regime that has total disregard for the Constitution, the diversity of the people of America and arrogance toward our world allies.
9/11 was a rallying point for our great country to bring cohesiveness to a joint venture in wiping out terrorism but instead, the cowboy sheriff in the white house and his deputy sheriff ( Barney Fife Cheney) rebuked the UN and did what it wanted, for their own personal gain. Halliburton got rich and Cheney and Bush profited as well. The Saudi Royal Family has the Bush family in their pocket ( why do you think Osama bin Laden is still on the lam?) Its all one big mess... and I can only plead that our congress finally kick their corrupt asses out of office, lets start with Gonzalves, and work our way to the top... C'mon America, grow some balls and make us proud to be Americans again...

This is Connaugh of Glenkerry and Waterford

Here is my best buddy, Connaugh ( pronounced Conner) He's a soft coated wheated terrier. When I'm at work, Connie spends the day with the claddaugh of cats, overseeing their mischief and participating if it looks like fun, such as tearing apart an old wool sweater, or chasing Goth Girl around the house until she goes postal...they all run away then...snickering and high fiving each other... There is the time when I drive off and I see Connie lying in the window big brown puppy eyes so sad that I'm going away for what seems like a year in dog years... When I come home, its the greatest thing to see Connaugh do his circle dance, he can do this for minutes on end..and like I said, in dog time minutes are like hours... he is amazing. Connaugh follows me room to room, lies by my side all evening suffering because I don't let him use the tv remote ( I am sick of Animal Planet) He does like American Idol and thinks Sanjaya should be eliminated, this dog has a good ear for talent! Connaugh loves dinner time, and stares intently at me and gets fidgety if I look like I;m going to clean my plate. Knowing that Connaugh likes everything, I leave things like Russian Dressing drenched lettuce and he eats it with zest! I think he'd pretty much eat anything as long as he thought I had eaten it... as for his Purina Dog chow.. he eats it as a snack between television shows and running out in the back yard to go winkies ( his word for a whizz not mine!). So this is my best buddy, and I just wanted people to see him and know that someone loves me more than anything..what a feeling, everyone should have a Connaugh, a Jesse, or a Mabel...Life is so much more bearable. Connaughs sends big sloppy licks.. his way to say, love ya!

Yahoo is at it Again

What the f*ck is going on with Corporate America? I just read on Huffington Post that Yahoo has given the names of Chinese subscribers who spoke out against the Chinese government! These Chinese people are like you and me... and there you go, they are now facing TEN YEARS in prison for speaking their mind...and why did Yahoo do this? Because they said it was an unfortunate clause in their agreement with the Chinese government to do business in China.. well isn't that swell... do you think they could have turned a blind eye? And while I;m on it..why don't they do something constructive like get rid of the pedophile chat rooms and child porn sites...things like that go on unnoticed... Yahoo has done this in the past with the American government, too quick to throw its users to the wolves..I say to all that read my blog..which I feel may not be many but spread the word and boycott Yahoo ( by the way, I have heard Google has done the same thing and it gives millions to the Republican party right wingers..but since I don't have the skinny on that one, I won't pass judgement "yet"... Freedom belongs to all men and women of the planet and we should never feel free until ALL of us share the same freedoms!

Weather is Fickle

Ok.. I posted this once, and the mysterious blogging trolls inside the computer found some erratica and it destroyed my blog.. not nice.. bad blog trolls bad!
Anyway, I was totally awed by how much snow had melted, we can actually see the ground as muddy as it is, we went from over 30.48 cm of snow on the ground to piles here and there from heaving it from walkways throughout the winter. So thinking this is the beginning of Spring ( which is one week away) the wild turkeys have returned to peck at the corn we throw out for the crows, mourning doves and pesky squirrels, birds a chattering away in the trees... how great! You can smell spring in the air...I actually could go out on the deck and check out the change in weather in just my boxers... so I came inside and turned on the news and weather and wha?... Do my ears decieve me? We're about to get another snowstorm Friday nite! Sweet jesus.. enough already! Another 30 cm of snow is more than I can bear... OH.by the way, I discovered that where I live is the foothills section of Maine, its the area that is between the Mountains in the west and the coast just east.. I always wondered about what section of midmaine I lived in besides the section that reminds me of every Steven King novel written... SOOOOO the only good thing I can say about snow is that 1) it contains nitrogen which is good for the grass 2) it will help keep the well full of water this summer ( yes we don't have piped in water, we have a well..) and 3)... I can't think of a third.. Snow sucks, cold weather sucks.. I want the warm sun back... in another year we'll be living in Florida ( I hope) and I;ll be complaining about the heat and humidity and if I do, please bitch slap the hell out of me :-)

Shades of the Nixon Era

Today Scooter Libby was found guilty of obstructing justice and perjury. Listening to that gas bag Cheney go on and on about this mans years of public service and how America is indebted to him..HA He's a crook, a liar, and his blatant disregard for our Constitution is what should be the focus of people. Whats this about Gonzalves firing all these US Attorneys who were investigating Republican politicos for wrongdoing? The BUSH administration is falling as did the Nixon administration, only this time, we don't have a Gerald Ford to take the wheel.. Speaker Pelosi, are you ready to be President Pelosi? America is waking up, its about time.

and the Oscar goes to...

Well after a weekend marathon of watching Oscar contender movies, thank god Jacko and I went to see Dreamgirls and The Queen at the theater, because we were busy all weekend with documentaries and such.. and to tell you the truth, having seen so many movies it makes it tough to decide who should be best actor or actress and picture.
Here is my take on who and what will be winners.

Best Picture: Definitely a toss up between The Departed and The Queen. Helen Mirren is amazing as Madge... I forgot it was Helen up there on the big screen. But then The Departed, taking place in my hometown of Boston, was a wowzer, didn't see that coming kinda movie..

Best Director: Martin Scorcese definitely for The Departed.. this is one of his best!

Best Actor: Haven't seen it, but looking at the list of contenders, Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin has to be the winner... this man can sing too!

Best Actress: Helen Mirren, hands down... made me look more favorably on her Madge and what was going on in that septagenarian royal squash when Diana died... now I sort of understand.. but I still think Prince Phillip is a total arse and a half..

Best Supporting Actor: Definitely Eddie Murphy for Dreamgirls. One of his finest roles.

Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson...omg, she blew me away with her performance and I remember when she got voted off American Idol, I said..what the fuck? So I want her to win to show those who voted her off.. that they were wrong.

Best Documetary: An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore.. everyone in the world should watch this film.. its scary.

Best Song: I need to wake up by Melissa Ethridge, the song for An Inconvenient Truth.

The rest of the nominations are not as compelling.. ahh the KFC is here... the sun is down and time to prepare for the 79th Annual Oscars ( Please don''t think Americans are totally frivolous with this sort of thing.. we're just as concerned about Bushy and cromies waging war on Iran and Syria.. *sigh* tonight we just want to forget reality for a bit...

anger is like fire

Some people need to chill
Their anger is contagious
It spreads like wildfire
And there is no way to stop
the conflagration.

Its Friday nite, and I have had no ambition all day except to make the winter go fast, the days shine longer, and move to sunny Florida. Tonite we're watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Daniel Radcliffe is a junior hottie.. I want to go to London to see him do Equus au naturale.. meanwhile, I have to work the weekend...

snow..snow..and more snow

This morning as daylight nudges the darkness of night, I view a scene from winter. The weathermen are all excited, I wonder if they find a blizzard more exciting than an orgasm... meanwhile, sick people don't take care of themselves and I have to trudge through the snow to make it to work.

Happy Valentines Day ;-)

Maine suxs

Its been days since I blogged. I have been uninspired and stressed out. I have been trying to write essays to submit to grad school so that they can see what a total whatever they decide I am...
So I started my new job today working for the feds. Ambivalence reigns supreme.. I hate Maine... we're expecting about 16 inches of snow on Wednesday.... ok.. enough maybe I'll find new inspiration as this week progresses. Did I say I hate living in Maine?

Post Florida

Well I've been home in Maine for over 24 hours now.. the first hours back here were unsettling. The first thing I noticed was how dirty the snow on the highway was..and how dark the highway and roadways seem to be. I guess I was finding fault with everything with being here.

Today, wow..I slept alot. I tried studying for my GRE's tomorrow without much success. Already figure I'll take them again. Talked with friends today, gave some thought to our move to Florida, how we need a game plan. Temperature today..the high of 14... this sucks. Oh, this is looking from my front window thats not sand...its snow.. snow suxs

this is Florida?

ok, I've been in Florida for three days, and for most of the time, I have been sick as a freakin dog. I've managed to walk to the Medical College campus, went by the botanical garden and thats about it.. trying to get healthy for tomorrow, my big day with the grad school people.

Meanwhile, never mind my health, but its like 50 degrees here. Cloudy..dismal... I haven't seen much.. this sucks for the most part...will gather my thoughts when I have some and get back to you...

Urgh... I hate mornings, well I hate mornings that I only get four hours sleep. The incessant chatter of news people on the television are just a bit too perky for me.. leaving within the hour. I'm hearing that its rainy in Tamp today through the weekend.. at least it will be quasi warm... why am I whining.. "smack" just slapped myself... there got it together... see y'all next week..

One last thing....

Moonlight shines bright tonight

Well I have finished packing, getting all my papers together and sent off all the emails I intended. Heading to Florida tomorrow to check out grad school, Tampa, and visit family. I'm sure I'll come home with a few things to blog about. My last night at work was uneventful as far as anyone saying.. goodbye and good luck... typically up here in Maine, people are soooo uptight to show emotions or feelings.. ah well.. just have to wait... but the moon is beautiful tonight, there is a snow right around its fullness.. and I find it tranquilizing... see you all in a week.

Goodbye January!

Well here it is the eve of February 1st... I look at this as hump day.. the worst of winter is behind us and it actually stays light until a little past five. Looking at the logistics, we see that in six weeks, ( March 11) we turn the clocks forward. I would think that perhaps I have seasona disaffective disorder. Do you think? I crave warm sunlight.. hate inside fake heat..funny, I don;t mind A/C...in any case, in 48 hours I'll be in Tampa Florida. Its been chilly there, and I swear Floridians would perish if they were to venture outside here... this morning it was 2F above zero.. So as I ramble in this stream of consciousness... I look forward to just four even weeks of February, Once the Oscars are over, we are looking at March.. and March although fickle, usually mean early blooms, big mud puddles and from what I heard ice flows in rivers ( Maine has a crap load of rivers running through it, matter of fact there is a pond and stream running behind my property...being too chicken shit to go out there in the forest to check it out, I have seen a beaver and an otter use my yard as a shortcut to get back to their woodland pond... nice. Goodbye January...as I flush the month down the john....

Musings on a midwinter morning in Maine

I'm trying to collect my thoughts here, sitting by the big window which looks out to the woods. The ground is covered in snow and the birdfeeder is a hub of activity. There is a red cardinal sitting on a branch, waiting for some privacy before he decides to peck. Meanwhile, the goldfinches and gnatcatchers parlay around the seed dispenser and the suet grille. A hairy woodpecker holds onto the largest suet feeder pecking at it like its wood. Three squirrels are romping up and down a white pine, I'm not sure if they're playing or being aggressive...who cares right? The brightness from the snow blinds me if I stare out at it too long, so I have to avert my eyes and try to think of what to write here while staring at the screen... seeing my words as stream of consciousness appear on the monitor. I know that when I hit "post", its there fore ad infinitum.

The boyo is sitting quietly at my feet. He loves to go outside normally and chase critters up trees. He has this look of glee when he is romping..but in this cold ( its 5 F ) he prefers to snooze and will move only when I move about.. he is my shadow, he is also my buddy and his little tale wagging makes me smile.

My other half, Jacko as the Hugo clan of Sydney call him, is doing chores around the house. Living here in rural Maine was supposed to be a good idea for both of us looking to make a new start after leaving Massachusetts. Last year, he lost his job, I was perilously ill, until some brilliant ( and I mean this complimentary) doctors discovered the nature of my illness and cured me...bless them all.. meanwhile.. we thought Maine would be a good place to reconnect. The plan was to get decent jobs. I recently finished my undergrad degree in criminal justice. The best anyplace would offer me is 12 bucks an hour as a C.O. Jack who has a degree and years of experience in HR has not been able to get a job, even in retail.. now the Governor of this State wonders why all the brain drain away from Maine ( hey that rhymes) occurs. Well if he asked me I'd tell him, the people in this state have to decide whether they want to come into the 21st century, or sit around the woodstove at the general store talkin about killing critters... honestly.. I better stop here because I might say too much..
